It's Monday!

Hi everyone!
After such a fabulous weekend, I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to take on another week. It's the start of a new month, and therefore there is no better time to take control of what you want out of life and be a glass half-full kind of girl (or guy)! With that said, I hopped out of bed and began March the cleanest way I know how...with a green monster of course! Into the blender went 5 pieces of kale and 2 huge handfuls of spinach followed by a banana and 1/2 cup of TJ's frozen berry medley. Add in equal parts almond milk and water, and you have got a winner! So refreshing, not so much green :/ A for effort though. It was so good! I actually ate it with a spoon which helped slow me down and let me taste all the flavors! Before darting off to work, I packed up lunch, which apparently wanted to be themed red. Mmmkayyy. I had the usual arrangement of teas, a Power Muffin that I baked over the weekend for my morning snack, an Adore Glo Bar (drool) for my afternoon snack, some Kashi crackers and green grapes to hold me over for whenever the muchies attacked! (which they alwayyys do in that office) My second red container held my precious homemade soup from this weekend! Glamor shot! M M M Tasty! I actually ate everything I took to work today, I think my appetite was jacked because of how much exercise I had yesterday.
Work was uneventful as always, but I am attending a cool event tomorrow morning about food aid that I am actually really excited for. If its worthwhile I will recap it tomorrow night. I dashed home (because that is what city girls do) :) and immediately changed into my workout clothes. There is no room for laziness this month, that is for sure! I ate a small handful of unpictured almonds while changing, and then headed down to the gym in my apartment for some strength training. I intended to just do lower body, but as soon as I started I knew my legs were still too fatigued from yesterday. So I opted to do some circuits and was able to hit almost every major muscle group in an hour. I can already feel it in my arms as I sit here typing, which in my mind=success. I was so hungry by the time I got back, I whipped up a salad while still in sweaty workout clothes. (I am such a lady) I used spinach, tomato, cucumber, carrots (which I munched on while assembling), chickpeas, hummus, and a splash of balsamic vinaigrette. I wolfed that baby down and grabbed a quick shower so that I could come back for round two... Sweet Potato heaven! I even made extra so that I can take them to work! (I think I am getting the hang of this cooking deal!) Since I don't believe in deprevation even when trying to get my eating/working out back in line, I had a special dessert that was so satisfying. I just put my portion in a cup, not a bowl, so that I would not eat as much. Check this out Uh yea, cookie's and cream organic yogurt, 1/2 graham cracker, and 1 tbsp of dark chocolate dreams. Dessert heaven!
While pondering life at my job (that is where all my best thinking happens), I made up my mind to challenge myself this month. First, with my workouts, I want to push my limits. After yesterdays run, I realized how much my mental block hinders me. So, whether it be going deeper into a yoga pose, 1 extra rep per set in weight lifting, or running for 10 seconds longer that I think I can, I want to make sure I am getting the most out of my workouts. Second, when it comes to eating, I want to eat my intuitively and consciously. I've been a grazer my whole life and I love big portions of healthy food. But, I am also on a budget. So I figure eating mindfully should cut back my portions and also save me some money!
Alright, I am off to update my resume, paint my nails, and then crawl into bed with Michael Pollan (not in that way you pervs!)
See y'all tomorrow!
~Jenn

  1. You know how to party!

Salad looks amazing. Sweet potatoes...hmmm. You know you're hungry when you can eat a sweet potato that's been baked in its skin with nothing added and it's delicious. =)
